Nick sat there in his living room with an ice pack on his cheek. Brian, Leighanne,
Kevin, Kristin, and Howie sat there talking about how to find Hayley. Three days later, Brian brought AJ over with him and
they talked. The doorbell rang. Nick opened it and saw two cops standing there. They came in.
“Mr. Carter,” one of them said.
“Yes,” Nick said.
“I’m Officer Harris and this is Officer Evans, we have some news about your wife,” Harris said.
“What is it,” Nick said. Brian, AJ, Howie, and Kevin came up behind Nick.
“I think we better go somewhere private,” Evans said.
“They are my friends, they are family, they can hear anything you have to say,” Nick said.
“Mr. Carter, we found a woman’s body down on the beach, burnt beyond recognition, we did an autopsy, I’m
sorry, Mr. Carter, it’s your wife, she’s dead, I’m very sorry,” Harris said.
“There has to be a mistake, the guy wouldn’t kill her, he claimed he was her husband, why don’t you
ask Adam Frazier what happened, it was his buddy that took her, she can’t be dead,” Nick said.
“We already questioned Mr. Frazier, he has had no contact with the outside, no visitors, he said that Jesse Davis
is crazy and should be locked up, we have a warrant out on Mr. Davis,” Harris said.
“Mr. Carter, we are sorry for your loss, your wife is indeed dead,” Evans said.
“NO!” Nick said as he sank to the floor. He covered his face in his hands. Brian knelt down and hugged
him. Nick held onto him and buried his face in Brian’s shoulder as he cried. Howie and Kevin knelt down beside them
and rubbed Nick’s back as he cried. AJ stood there. Nick grabbed his hand and held it understanding that AJ couldn’t
kneel down. The guys helped Nick to the couch and sat down with him.
“She can’t be gone, she can’t be!” Nick cried.
Three days later, they had the funeral. Nick’s family stood around him,
as did the guys. Jane came up and held her son’s hand. Nick hugged his mother and cried. Jane held her eldest son and
wished she could take the pain away. After the service, everyone went to the Carters’. Nick went out back and went to
the beach and just stared at the ocean. Aaron, Leslie, BJ, and Angel came down to where Nick was. Leslie, BJ, and Angel hugged
Nick. They went back to the house. Aaron hugged Nick and stood there with him. Nick hugged Aaron and went to his car and went
down to the police station. He asked to see Adam. He sat in a visitation room. They brought Adam in and he sat down.
“I’m sorry about Hayley,” Adam said.
“Why would Jesse kill her?” Nick asked.
“He was obsessed with her, he found out you two were married so he probably thought that if he can’t have
her, no one can, that was before he got put in jail and I took her far away where he couldn’t find her, I really cared
about her, I might have been stupid and treated her bad, but I didn’t want him to kill her, I did my best to keep her
safe and alive,” Adam said.
“Where does he go when he is hiding,” Nick said.
“He wouldn’t tell me because I wouldn’t give her up,” Adam said. An officer came in with an
envelope.
“You have mail,” he said. He left the room. Adam opened it up and read it.
“Dear Adam, I finally won, I got her, no one will know the truth, she is mine forever, you lost, that pop dweeb
lost, she is mine, the world will think she’s dead, but that is a cover, I made sure that she will be mine forever,
hope you rot in prison, Jesse,” Adam said reading the letter. He looked at Nick.
“He faked her death to keep her forever,” Adam said.
“Does it have a return address?” Nick asked.
“No, but it was postmarked in Tennessee,” Adam said. Officer Harris came in. Adam gave him the letter.
Harris read it and left the room. Evans came in.
“We are going undercover, can we trust you to help us,” Evans asked Adam.
“I will do whatever it takes to get her away from him, and back where she belongs, with her husband,” Adam
said looking at Nick.
“Nick, we will find her and bring her home to you,” Evans said. Nick went to his parent’s house.
Everyone was still there.
“Honey, where did you go,” Jane said.
“Police station, talked to Hayley’s ex, Mom, she’s alive, that guy, Jesse, sent a letter to Adam,
telling him that she was his forever, that she will be his, he faked her death to keep her for himself, her ex told me that
Jesse was obsessed and told Adam that if Jesse can’t have her, no one can, Jesse went to jail so Adam took Hayley far
away to keep her safe, he may have hurt her but he kept her from Jesse, until now since Adam’s in jail, but he’s
helping the cops find her, the letter came from Tennessee,” Nick said.
“So what can we do?” Bob asked.
“Sit and wait for word or her coming home,” Nick said.
“Let’s go to your house,” Jane said.
Jane, Bob, Leslie, BJ, Angel, Aaron, Brian, Leighanne, Kristin, Kevin, AJ,
and Howie went to Nick’s to wait for word on Hayley.
