Nick and the guys and Kristin and Leighanne sat in the waiting room at the
hospital, waiting for word on Hayley and the baby when a couple came in. Nick didn’t recognize them as they went to
the nurses’ station. Dr. Davis came out and talked to them and led them over to the group.
“Nick, this is Greg and Laura Hardin, Hayley’s parents,” Dr. Davis said.
“Are you sure?” Nick asked.
“We are her parents,” Greg said.
“I want to make sure because two people claiming to be Hayley’s parents visited her,” Nick said.
“Who are you!” Greg said.
“My name is Nick Carter, Hayley is my wife,” Nick said. Laura gasped.
“She never told us she was married!” Greg said.
“I don’t know why she didn’t, but I want to make sure you two are really her parents before you get
to see her,” Nick said. Greg and Laura showed him their Ids.
“Why would you ask if we were her parents?” Laura said.
“That guy, Jesse, his parents visited Hayley and freaked her out, I was scared that would happen again,”
Nick said.
“Do you love my daughter?” Greg asked.
“Very much, I would die for her,” Nick said.
“Where is my daughter,” Greg said.
“In surgery,” Nick said.
“What,” Laura said.
“Hayley was hit by a drunk driver as she was crossing a street, she was six months pregnant and they have to
remove the baby or they will lose both Hayley and the baby,” Nick said.
“Did you see it happen?” Laura asked.
“No, she was going to a hotel to meet up with an old friend from work when she got hit, I was on my way back
from California where my family lives,” Nick said. Dr. Davis came out.
“Nick,” Dr. Davis said.
“Is Hayley okay?” Nick asked as everyone gathered behind him.
“Hayley is going to be fine,” Dr. Davis said.
“What about the baby?” Kevin asked.
“We couldn’t save the baby, I’m sorry,” Dr. Davis said.
“Can I see my wife?” Nick asked.
“Room 111, just one at a time until we get her moved to a private room,” Dr. Davis said. Nick went down
the hall and went into Hayley’s room and saw her. He sat down and held her hand.
