Nick and Hayley went back to his house and sat down in the living room to talk.
“So what do you last remember?” Nick asked.
“Adam going to jail, that’s all, that is the last thing I remember, I woke up in a strange place and I
looked and saw a guy that I graduated with, Evan, he said he and I were married and he said that I had amnesia and that you
ended the marriage because I couldn’t be married to someone who I didn’t know, I asked him for a divorce and I
had to come find you,” Hayley said.
“I was so miserable, I really didn’t want to end the marriage, but I didn’t know what else to do,
I wanted you to be happy and I really cared about you, and you couldn’t remember anything about your life down here
so I had to let go,” Nick said.
“I’m not going anywhere, my life is with you,” Hayley said. The doorbell rang. Nick got up and opened
the door and saw Laura and Evan standing there.
“Hi Laura,” Nick said.
“Hi Nick, is Hayley here?” Laura said.
“Yeah,” Nick said. Laura came in with Evan behind her. Hayley saw her mother and Evan.
“Mom, I remember my life down here, well, some of it, but I remember being Nick’s wife, even though I’m
not anymore,” Hayley said.
“I know, sweetie, Evan told me, he is here with the papers for the divorce,” Laura said. Evan handed her
the papers. Hayley sat down and read them and signed them. She handed them to Evan.
“I’ll tell your mom when the divorce is final,” Evan said. Hayley nodded.
“Evan, I’m sorry, I honestly don’t remember marrying you,” Hayley said.
“I know, Hayley, I understand, really, I wish you the best and I know you are back where you belong,” Evan
said. Hayley hugged him. He left with Laura. Hayley looked through her purse and found birth control pills and it showed that
she had been taking them.
“I guess I was on birth control,” Hayley said.
“Do you want to stay that way,” Nick said.
“I need to see Dr. Kelly,” Hayley said. They went to the hospital and went in to see Dr. Kelly.
“Hayley, how much do you remember of your life down here,” Dr. Kelly said.
“Just my ex-boyfriend going to jail, everything after that is blank,” Hayley said.
“Did you see a doctor up in Missouri?” Dr. Kelly asked.
“Yeah,” Hayley said. She gave Dr. Kelly the info and Dr. Kelly left the room. She came back and sat down.
“Okay, you started birth control pills a couple months ago,” Dr. Kelly said.
“I have a scar on my stomach, what is that from?” Hayley asked. Dr. Kelly looked at Nick who looked back
at her. Dr. Kelly looked at Hayley.
“What’s going on,” Hayley said looking at Nick and Dr. Kelly.
“Hayley, back when you got amnesia from getting hit by a car, you were six months pregnant, that scar is where
they did surgery to get the baby out, they had to do that to save your life otherwise you and the baby would have died,”
Dr. Kelly said.
“The baby didn’t make it, did it,” Hayley said.
“No, the baby didn’t make it, but you had amnesia so we couldn’t say anything,” Dr. Kelly said.
“Oh god,” Hayley said covering her face. Nick hugged her. She rested her head on his shoulder.
