Chapter 25

Nick woke up and looked around and saw that he was alone. He got up and checked the house and sat down on the couch. The phone rang.
        “Hello,” Nick said.
“Hi Nick, it’s Laura,” Laura said.
        “Hi Laura,” Nick said.
“Hayley is doing fine, she hasn’t regain much of her memory, she is remembering stuff but still nothing about Florida, she had a question, she found a credit card in her purse with her married name on it, she wanted to know if it was usable,” Laura said.
“Yeah, she can use it whenever she wants,” Nick said.
“Okay, I’ll call back whenever there is another update,” Laura said.
“Okay, bye,” Nick said. He hung up and groaned and thought about the dream he had. He would give anything to get her to remember everything. He got up and got ready and went to the studio and saw the guys.
“Nick, you okay, you look like crap,” AJ said.
        “AJ!” Brian said.
        “He does,” AJ said.
“I just had a weird dream, that’s all,” Nick said.
“What was it about?” Brian asked.
“I can’t remember,” Nick said. He sat down. Kevin sat down beside him.
“Nick,” Kevin said. Nick looked at him with tears in his eyes. Kevin hugged him and Nick fell apart. Brian, AJ, and Howie came over and rubbed Nick’s back.
        “Nicky, tell us,” Howie said.
“I got a call from Laura, Hayley’s remembering stuff, but nothing about Florida or me, I would give anything if she could remember everything and come back to me,” Nick said crying.
Three months went by. Nick and the guys were finishing up the album when Nick’s phone rang. He went out and sat down and answered it.
        “Hello,” Nick said.
“Nick, it’s Laura, I’m in town and I need to see you, can you meet me at the beach,” Laura said. Nick told the guys he was leaving and went to the beach and found Laura.
        “Laura,” Nick said.
“Nick, I hate to bring bad news to you, but Hayley still hasn’t regained her memory and she fell in love with another guy, she knows him, she graduated from high school with him, they are engaged and I need to know if there is a way out of the marriage,” Laura said.
        “A way out,” Nick said.
“Is there a way to end your marriage to her,” Laura said.
“I don’t know, we both got papers and said there was no way to end the marriage,” Nick said.
“There has to be some way,” Laura said.
“Why are you doing this,” Nick said.
“Nick, she wants to marry him, she doesn’t know about her life down here, we are patiently waiting for her to fully regain her memory but it’s been six months and she hasn’t remembered much, I’m sorry, but if you want her to be happy, if you care about her, you find a way to end the marriage,” Laura said. She walked off. Nick stood there. He took a deep breath and stared out at the ocean. He slowly walked back to his car and drove home. He walked in and sat down and stared at the blank TV as tears fell down his cheeks.  He laid on the couch and stared at the ceiling. The front door opened and closed and Brian, Leighanne, Kevin, Kristin, AJ, and Howie came in.
        “Nick, what happened,” Brian said.
“Laura called me to meet her at the beach, Hayley is still the same, but she fell for someone else and Laura wants me to find a way to end the marriage because Hayley is engaged to someone else,” Nick said. Brian hugged him.
The next day, Nick went to the courthouse and talked to one of the judges. A few hours later, he walked out with the papers saying that his marriage to Hayley was over. He got the divorce. He sent the info to Laura and went home and collapsed on the couch. He looked at his hand and looked at his ring. He took it off and put it on the table.
Meanwhile…
Laura received the papers and went home and showed them to Hayley.
“Now I can marry Evan,” Hayley said.
        “Yeah, honey,” Laura said.
        “Mom, what’s wrong,” Hayley said.
“Well, I went to talk to Nick, he seemed brokenhearted when I told him the news, I think he really loved you a lot,” Laura said.
“But I can’t be married to someone I have no memory of,” Hayley said.
“No memory or don’t want to remember,” Laura said.
“Mom, I am always honest with you about my lack of memory, if I remembered my life in Florida, I would have gone back there in a second,” Hayley said.
“I know, honey,” Laura said. Hayley started making plans for her wedding to Evan.
Three months later, Nick received an email from Laura. It was a picture of Hayley and her new husband on their wedding day.  They looked so in love with each other. Nick felt his heart breaking. He knew now that things were definitely not going to be the same.
